The fastest way to become a better writer is to copy good writing by hand.

A guy called Gary Halbert said that.

If you’ve never heard of him, you’re in for a treat.

He sent a bunch of letters to his son from jail.

They’re called the Boron letters.

Turns out they were pretty much the greatest letters of all time. (Should’ve been called the Leboron Letters.)

So, how’d he get that good?

He copied the greats. By hand. Over and over. Until the rhythm lived in his brain.

When you write by hand, your brain has to rebuild every sentence from scratch. That extra effort is what wires the skill in. There’s science behind it*.

George Orwell was famous for rewriting passages from people he admired, to study clarity and rhythm. (His six rules for writing will be second nature to you by the end of the 10 day course.)

Roald Dahl copied Ernest Hemingway’s sentence structure early in his career - writing out paragraphs to understand rhythm. And yet… no one does it these days.

So, here’s what we’ll do…

I send you 10 of the greatest bits of copy, ever. 1 a day for 10 weekdays.

You write them out by hand.

I guarantee you’ll be a better writer by the end of it.

We copy what the best people do in all other things in life.

Do it with your writing.

I’ll send Day 1 to your inbox if you’d like?
